Requirements for domain names domains are strictly restricted to Nigerian tertiary academic institutions only. These include: universities, polytechnics, colleges of education etc only.

(A) The main requirement for registering domains is proof of accreditation by the relevant accreditation body, in the form of an accreditation certificate.


  • the university must be accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC)
  • the Polytechnic, College of Agriculture, Monotechnic, College of Health Technology, or Technical college must be accredited by National Board for Technical Education (NBTE)
  • the College of Education must be accredited by National Commission for Colleges of Education

(B) A scanned copy of a signed Letter of Authorization, written on the official Letterhead of the Institution applying for the domain name. The letter must be written by a senior official of the institution and must mention the domain being applied for.

      It has to be an accredited tertiary academic institution. The ownership of the institution is not relevant.
